Welcome
to Cullercoats
The village of picturesque village of Cullercoats nestles between
Tynemouth and Whitley Bay. It overlooks the picturesque natural
harbour of Cullercoats Bay, a Blue Flag award-winning beach, great
for those looking for a quiet stroll or a beach holiday.
Historically the village depended on fishing, there was also local
coal mining in so called bell pits. The coal was used to fire salt
pans (now long gone) on the field now known as the boat field. Cullercoats
may also be of interest from an architectural perspective, with
a row of fishermen's cottages on Simpson Street which were preserved
during the "redevelopment" of the village in the 1970s.
At the top of the bay stands Cullercoats Watch House, dating back
to 1879. Cullercoats, smaller than Whitley Bay and Tynemouth, is
popular with visitors, many attracted by it's wonderful bay.
